No Joey Franko is not the drummer from Twisted Sister- that would be Joey Franco.. Nor are we two wild and crazy guys from Czechoslovakia…that was Dan Akroyd and Steve Martin…
Who we are!
Joey Franko is Joe Dragotto and Frank Weckerle.
Joe plays drums and Frank plays guitar- that’s a picture of us above. Bio Info:
Joe Dragotto Congas/Latin Percussion and Vocals:
Influenced by Caribbean and Latin music, Joe keeps the foundation as our rhythm section while singing lead vocals. Joe has a long musical history in the Bay Area having grown up in South San Francisco he has sat in with many local bands and musicians over the past 3 + decades. Lots of soul oozes out of those drums…
Frank Weckerle Guitars and Back-up vocals:
Frank started fooling around on his Dad’s “Gretsch Tennessean” when he was about 10 years old. Has many influences that shapes his sound. Originally born and raised in the Pittsburgh, PA area moved to Daytona, Fla in his teens and then off to California right after High School. In that trek, he was fortunate to play with many bands and be exposed to many great styles of music that molded his style.
The duo:
Joe and Frank first met as hockey dads following their kids from ice-rink to ice-rink. At that time, they also met Fred Flores (drums and another hockey Dad) and started the foundation for the band “Straight off Bat”.
The Joey Franko project started off as an attempt to capture the essence of the songs that Joe and Frank have written. They felt the combo of acoustic Guitar and Drums, in its simplicity and plain truth spoke the soul of their music. With that they formed “Joey Franko”.
